YOUTH AND FAMILY PROGRAMS

Fall 2011 Volunteer Opportunities

Family Fun & Learning Nights: Tuesdays, September 20 and November 15, volunteers needed from 5:00-8:00 pm. Families enjoy an evening of fun-filled crafts, activities and free dinner. Volunteers will help set-up, run activity tables, serve dinner and clean-up. Approximately 20 volunteers needed per evening; a perfect opportunity for a small group or club!

Early Learner Book Club: Saturdays August 13 from 10:30-11:30. Help 3-5 year olds with playing games, singing songs and creating crafts focused on the theme of a book. 3-5 volunteers are needed each month.

Tutoring: Contact our Volunteer Coordinator for information on Summer and School Year Long Tutoring.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Northern Elementary ESP Literary Arts Program: June 27-July 1: 8:30-10:15am. Volunteers will help set-up and take down activities, assist kids with journal making, writing, performance, book reading and activities. Volunteers not needed on Thursday June 30. A meeting with the Outreach Coordinator is required before the start of the program.

William Wells Brown ESP Literary Arts Program: July 11-July 15: 8:30-10:15am.Volunteers will help set-up and take down activities, assist kids with journal making, writing, performance, book reading and activities. Volunteers not needed on Thursday June 30. A meeting with the Outreach Coordinator is required before the start of the program.

Camp Carnegie: Contact our Volunteer Coordinator if you’d like to be a Camp Helper!

Kentucky Great Writers Series: June 7. An evening of open mic time, featured readings and refreshments at the Carnegie Center! 2 volunteers needed from 3:30-4:00 and 2 volunteers needed from 6:30-9:00.

Gallery Hop: Friday, June 17. The Carnegie Center is a stop on this monthly community event. Volunteers are needed to help set-up the week of, and facilitate and serve refreshments the night of the gallery opening. 4 volunteers are needed.

Weekly, Monthly, & Quarterly Volunteers

Mailing Helpers: Quarterly updates are sent out to approximately 500 people. Volunteers help label and stamp envelopes, fold newsletters, and stuff envelopes. This is a great way to obtain easy service hours! Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator to be informed of these dates as they arise.

Outreach Fair Helpers: Volunteers are needed to help pass out books, help with hands on activities and appropriately represent the Carnegie Center. No training required, however, some knowledge of the Carnegie Center beforehand is appreciated. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator to be informed of these dates as they arise.

Reading & Tutoring Room Assistants: We are looking for someone to visit one hour each week, preferably at the same, to help keep these spaces in order. Volunteer would be responsible for organizing and restocking the book shelves, cleaning off tables and making sure the room is tidy. Once a month volunteers can use their creativity to decorate the wall in the reading room based on a specific theme and create educational spaces in the tutoring room. Volunteers will work with the Tutoring Coordinator as well as the Volunteer Coordinator.

Group Service: Ideas and opportunities are always welcome. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss a way that your group can get involved!

BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND CLEAN-UP DAYS

Perfect for groups! We are always looking for people to sort our books, clean up the reading and tutoring rooms and do general building clean-up. Raking, weeding, painting, organizing, etc. We can plan a group clean-up day, or individuals can volunteer on a one-time basis.
