The Carnegie Center is a place where people of all ages find joy in writing, reading, and learning new things in a comfortable atmosphere. The different programs offered here at the Carnegie Center are primarily funded by people like YOU. Here are a few examples of people who’ve benefited from Carnegie Center programs this year:
"My personal writing journey has been touched and will never be the same. The instructor energized me and my feelings toward writing, reading great literature, and appreciating the art in others. I hope to inspire my students the way she inspired me." --a teacher in the Carnegie Center’s Kentucky Literature Academy
"I’ve been telling my teachers and friends about the awesome experience! Everything I’ve done with the Carnegie Center has just been wonderful and I have thoroughly enjoyed every second of it!" --a high schooler in the Young Women Writers Project
"I liked the informal atmosphere yet the knowledge and experience of the instructor." --a computer workshop participant
"Thank you for my desk. Everyday I come home from school, guess what I’m going to do? 1.2.3. Did you guess? Here’s the answer. I’m going to set on my chair everyday and do my homework." --an elementary-aged participant in the Ready Set Study Project
Your contribution will also ensure that children get the afterschool tutoring they need, adults find support to write their stories or become published, families find opportunities to learn together, and much more.
Last fall, among our attendees at one of our Family Fun and Learning Nights was a mother and her two children. They’d enjoyed the fun learning activities and dinner that night. As they were leaving, she told us that she and her family have been living in a shelter. She told us, "This is the first night in I can’t remember how long that I didn’t think about our situation and what we were going to do tomorrow. We got to spend time together as a family and just have fun." Families like this one will benefit from your support.
The Carnegie Center is raising $1 million to help fund our programs over a three-year period. We are within sight of our goal, but still need support from people giving at all levels—large and small—in order to reach that level.
You can show your support of the Carnegie Center by:
- Electing to make a two or three-year pledge, payable monthly, quarterly, twice a year, or annually; we make this so easy we even send you a reminder when it’s time for your next pledge payment!
- Checking with your employer to see if they have a Matching Gifts Program—often they will match your contribution dollar for dollar
- Requesting that a contribution be made to the Carnegie Center by your employer and/or a service club in which you belong
- Giving a gift of stocks
- Including the Carnegie Center in your will or life insurance policy
- Contributing up to $100,000 to the Center from your IRA if you are 70 ½ or older (law allows this option through December 31, 2009 only)
The Carnegie Center is a charitable non-profit organization; contributions are tax-deductible.
