Q: Is it a requirement that I attend the Lexington VISTA Job Fair on May 16th from 4:30 to 6:30?
A: No, however; it is strongly encouraged. This event will give you an opportunity to meet with representatives with each of these sites and may help you determine which projects you have the greatest interest in. This will also give the site supervisors an opportunity to meet you in person and get a better idea of your background and interests.

Q: Can I contact the VISTA web site for more information about a project job description?
A: Yes

Q: What is the job title I would be applying for?
A: "VISTA member" at the site location you are interested in.

Q: Can I still apply even though I know there is some chance I could not serve as a VISTA member for the full 12 months?
A: No

Q: What is the stipend for VISTA members?
A: Members will receive $808 each month. This money is taxable.

Q: What are the working hours for the positions?
A: Your schedule would vary depending on your site and project responsibilities. VISTA members should be prepared to work non-standard hours as needed.

Q: Can I be an enrolled student at a college or university while serving as a VISTA member?
A: No. There may a a possibility for a member to take a single class, but this must be pre-approved by the state office.

Q: Can I have a part time job while serving as a VISTA member?
A: No. VISTA requires that members sign an agreement that they will not take on any other employment.

Q: Is VISTA a direct service program?
A: No, you will not be providing the service directly to those in need. You will, however, be developing the capacity of organizations to meet needs in new ways by launching initiatives and working on ensuring sustainability for these projects.

Q: When will candidates be notified if they have been chosen for a VISTA member position?
A: All decisions should be made by July 1st.

Q: When is the national training that Lexington VISTA members would attend?
A: August 2nd through August 5th or August 23rd through August 26th.

Q: Where is the national training?
A: Atlanta, Georgia - All expenses are covered by the Americorps*VISTA program. Travel arrangements will be made through the VISTA office.

Q: Does VISTA cover moving expenses if I am relocating to Lexington to take a position?
A: Yes, there is a $550 resettlement allowance for those who qualify.

Q: How many vacation days do VISTA members get?
A: 10 days paid vacation and 10 paid holidays

Q: What is the VISTA Child Care Benefit?
A: Members who qualify can receive $300 per month for child care assistance.
